| Meditation
is not some strange technique that we have to learn wit hgreate
effort and difficulty. There is already a strong element of meditaiton
in our lives, but we are simply not aware of it. Wehn we read, when
we study, or wen we do research, we have to focus the mind. When
we drive a car or operate machinery, we have to pay attention. When
we explain something to a friend, we have to concentrate in order
to make ourseleves under stood, and our friend has to concentratie
in order to understand us. Lovers meditate on one another; a mother
meditates on her child. Wehatever we accomplish in this world we
accomplish through the powe ro concentration. Which is nothing but
meditation.
Meditation
is a complete path. It is not only brings inner experiences, but
removes all the worries and tensions of the mind and washes away
the sins of countless lifetimes. Medition is not merelya technique;
It is a means by which we can actually see th Truth as it is. By
meditating more and more on the inner Truth, we ourselves become
that Truth. Through meditaion our inner awareness becomes steadily
deeper, and our understanding of internal and external things becomes
sharper. Above all, medition stills the wandering mind and established
us forever in a state of peace that remains stable no matter what
happens around us. Through meditation we becoem aware of our fundamental
unity with all things. We cannot attain that awareness by reading
books or listeing to lectures. We can attain it only through direct
experience. To have that experience we must pass from one state
of awareness to another, moving gradually to deeper and deeper levels
of our being. In meditation this is exactly what happens: We pass
from the level in which we have the awareness " I am the body"
to the level in which we have the experience " I am God." |
